Au Chiapas, Mexique, un représentant du gouvernement convie les femmes d’une communauté maya à un atelier destiné à faire valoir l’importance de leur culture et de leurs traditions pour le développement du tourisme. Mais la vision exposée ostensiblement coince les jeunes femmes entre tradition et modernité. Le discours institutionnel trouve sa contrepartie dans la relation que ces dernières développent avec les trois réalisatrices. C’est ce qui nous convie à voir comment la culture devient un objet de consommation.

In Chiapas, Mexico, a government representative invites the women of a Mayan community to a workshop held to demonstrate the importance of their culture and traditions for developing ethnic tourism. But the government’s vision forces the young women into a place caught between tradition and modernity. This institutional discourse is mirrored in the relationship that the women develop with the three co-directors. This leads us to see how culture becomes an object of consumption.
